YEAR 9'S MAKE IT FOUR WINS OUT OF FOUR

The year 9's won away at City 6-1 on Wednesday evening. It was another good performance against a battling City team. The first goal was scored by JOSH WRIGHT who broke through the defence before calmly slotting the ball into the corner of the net. City then rallied and equalised soon after.
Cherry went up a gear and regained the lead, GEORGE SWANN finishing neatly at the far post before revealing a t-shirt asking the question "Why always me?".
It was made 3-1 before half time when TOM ARNOLD went on a mazy run before rounding the keeper and hitting the ball into an empty net.
Cherry had a much needed drink in very hot conditions before taking control in the second half.

5 STAR CHAPMAN AS CHERRY HIT 8!

The year 8 team completed a remarkable victory tonight winning 8-0 against City School. JOHN CHAPMAN scored 5 goals and is really living up to his reputation as a goal machine! LIAM ATKINSON, who is only in year 7, also scored a hat-trick in the match. The strike partnership of Chapman and Atkinson appears as deadly as Van Persie and Walcott! Thanks to Stuart Brammer for giving up his time to referee this match and also thanks to Carl Newberry for managing the year 8 team to another win (I think he wants my job!).
It should be noted that as a school we have now played 9 games since February half term, have won 7 of them, drawn 1 and only lost 1. This is an excellent effort by a school of our size! Well done to all the lads involved.

HELSDOWN BRACE EARNS CHERRY A SHARE OF THE SPOILS

Two goals in the first half from the lively Kieran Helsdown earned the year 10 team a point against a strong and physical City team.
It was 1-0 with only one minute on the clock as Aaron Smith whipped in a corner that was neatly finished at the far post by HELSDOWN. The leade lasted only two minutes as the ball dropped kindly for a City player who blasted into the roof of the net from the edge of the box.
Cherry restored the lead when ex City player Joe Marshall delivered a great free kick into the box and HELSDOWN headed expertly into the corner.
Cherry had a 2-1 lead at half time and the lads got a much needed drink on what was a hot night out on the 3G pitch.

YEAR 9'S WIN IN TOP OF THE TABLE CLASH

The year 9 football team won again last night as they beat the previously unbeaten LCHS 2-0 at home. The goals were scored by JOSHUA WRIGHT and RYAN YATES.
It was a game where Cherry had to defend for large parts but football is about taking your chances and two goals in the first half were enough to win the game.
The first goal was excellent as WRIGHT held the ball up well before getting a return pass and shrugging off the defender to rifle into the top corner of the net.
It was 2-0 just before half time as YATES beat two players wide on the right before cutting in and expertly finishing with a shot that went in off the post.
The defence had to stay strong throughout and Max Squire in goal was frequently called upon to make some good saves.

5 STAR PERFORMANCE AS CHERRY WIN AGAIN

The year 8 team travelled to Minster in confident mood after winning 1-0 away at NK in their last match. The match was played on a very bobbly pitch but this didn't bother the players who were determined to play a passing game. Cherry took the lead in the 5th minute with a goal that was as good as you will see in school football. Captain ANDY WILKINSON picked the ball up at centre back before making his way up the pitch playing numerous one two's and then slotting the ball coolly past the keeper. Despite dominating the first half it remained 1-0 at half time. Myself and year 11 coach Carl Newberry felt an early second half goal would ensure a less nervy second half and we encouraged the players to attack right from the start of the half.
