CALLUM WARD MAKES THE BIG STEP UP TO LINCOLN CITY RESERVES AT JUST 15

Callum Ward was absent from school on Monday after being called up to play for Lincoln City reserves against Leeds United's second string at Elland Road. Callum only made the step up to youth team (under 19's) football on Saturday, and after impressing in that game was called up to play for the reserves only 48 hours later. Leeds team included Lloyd Sam and Paul Connolly, both first team regulars, and also Honduran international Ramon Nunez. Nunez bagged all four goals in a 4-1 win for Leeds. Callum played 70 minutes at centre back before coming off with a slight groin strain. The feedback from the management team at Lincoln was very positive and that Callum had "taken the step up in his stride". This is an outstanding achievement Callum. Well done.

NEWBERRY GOAL FULLY DESERVED

Carl Newberry scored an excellent headed goal against Queen Elizabeth from Gainsbrough on Wednesday night. It was the year 10 teams third outing of the campaign and although we are still looking for our first points of the season, it was another good battling performance by the boys in very wet conditions.

MAXWELL AND BRADLEY MAKE THE STEP UP TO YEAR 10 FOOTBALL

The year 10 football team started the season with a very difficult away match against NK. The NK team is littered with talent, with numerous centre of excellence and A league players. Cherry only had 11 players due to injuries and unavailability on the day. Max Cawthorne made his debut for the school team, and Tom Maxwell (defender) and Jamie Bradley (goalkeeper) both in year 9 stepped in and did a fantastic job. It was 1-0 at half time before Alex Caunt made it 1-1 with a clever finish after excellent work by Ryan Cook in the centre of midfield. Cherry ran out of steam towards the end and lost 5-1 but the lads were a credit to themselves and the school. The right attitude was shown throughout and the work ethic during the game was second to none. Carl Newberry battled very well in midfield and Tom Maxwell was outstanding in defence, winning everything in the air and making numerous last ditch tackles. Well done to all involved and keep up the good work ready for the next game!

MICHAEL COOKE MAKES LINCOLNSHIRE FA UNDER 16 SQUAD

At the end of July 2010 Michael Cooke went for a trial for the Lincolnshire FA Under 16 football squad. Michael is a very talented goalkeeper who has performed exceptionally well on a number of occasions for the school football teams, both at his own age group and in the past, for the year above. I received some fantastic news on Tuesday when opening a letter to realise Michael had made the initial squad. Michael will now be reqiured to play in matches against teams such as Grimsby Town, South Yorkshire and Leicestershire. Everyone at the school wishes Michael all the best for these games! Well done Michael.
