Years 7 and 8 work towards the key stage 3 scheme of work and receive 3 lessons a week in Mathematics.
The scheme of work is based upon maths age and lessons are tailored to the needs of the students within the lesson.
A significant emphasis is placed on numeracy and problem solving skills. It is vital students maintain their numeracy skills especially their multiplication knowledge.
The school has a subscription to Successmaker which supports Maths intervention with a strong emphasis of numeracy.
Every student will have weekly opportunity practise and improve their numeracy skills on this programme.
The new specifications for Mathematics are very much based upon logical thinking and problem solving worded questions.
Therefore to develop confidence in Students we aim to incorporate problem solving into each topic as student progress through their academic careers at Cherry Willingham Community School.
The school has a subscription to www.mymaths.co.uk which allows each individual student to have their own portal and learning space.
This provides all students with online support which can be accessed at any time.
Homework should be set weekly, this is often on mymaths but could also include question exercises to reinforce recent lessons or research activities to prepare for a new topic and encourage independent learning.
Students are assessed explicitly on their multiplication knowledge and formal tests to identify strengths and weaknesses in addition to teacher assessment throughout lessons.
Grades are assigned in accordance to the STEPS protocol used within the school.
The school annually enters students for the UKMT Junior and Senior challenges which supports and challenges students who are good lateral thinkers and enjoy problem solving.
