Key Topics / Subject content

This GCSE builds on and reinforces what you will study in core Religious Studies. It will be seen as a second GCSE and additional to what you do in Core.  You will study Christianity and Islam in more detail.

This qualification requires you to study the nature of Christianity and Islam and its effects on the lives of believers in the UK. 

There are four sections covering beliefs and values, community and tradition, worship and celebration and living a religious life.



Method of Assessment

  • Two 1 ½ hour exams
Grades are awarded from A*-G.




Religious Studies students are valued because they learn to:

  • Make decisions about an issue.
  • Think independently and creatively.
  • Be computer literate.
  • Be a well rounded, flexible thinker.



Progression Route

The main advantage of GCSE Religious Studies is that it prepares you for life and gives you the skills you will need to make the decisions every adult faces.  It is also excellent preparation for A Level Social Sciences (law, sociology and psychology), A Level Religious Studies, History and English.  It is also excellent preparation for jobs that appreciate the skills GCSE Religious Studies will give you such as medicine, the police, the armed forces and the caring professions (social work, nursing and probation service).
