Home/School Communications
Dear Parents/Carers/Guardians
In an attempt to improve effective and efficient communication between school and home, I am writing to let you know of some changes to our systems.
• If you call the school regarding concerns about your son or daughter, the office staff will take your name and number and pass this on by email to the form tutor who will then contact you as soon as possible to ascertain the problem. (The form tutor is the first point of contact for any concerns).
• If you call to speak to a specific subject teacher the email will be sent to that teacher and they will contact you directly. (A copy will also be sent to the form tutor to keep them in the loop).
• If it is absolutely imperative that you speak to a member of the senior leadership team or the pastoral leader an email will be sent to the appropriate member of staff and they will respond.
I hope this clarifies our move forward in an attempt to improve contact between home and school. We recognise that during the past couple of months contact with the school has been difficult due to the fire damage and we apologise to any parent or carer who has had to wait to be contacted by any member of staff.
Parents Evening
Hiya everyone this week we held the combined Y8, 9 and 10 parents evening. Although having 3 year groups on one night was not ideal the school realises the vital importance of communicating with parents and time slots that we could hold a parents evening post fire were few and far between so we went with the best available date and combination.
The night was very positive, with many parents taking the time to note the value of meeting teachers but although we seemed to be very busy the scores on the doors were not so positive with percentage turn outs as shown below:-
• New year 8 – 40%
• New year 9 – 36%
• New year 10 – 29%.
It is also worth noting that attendance at parents evenings never exceeds 50% turnout.
At Cherry we value home school communications very highly and would just like to remind parents that the Form tutor is the first and best point of call for any information on your child or issues to do with their education.
Mr. P.

Weekly Update
Weekly Update
Senior Student Leaders
It is the time of the year when we start to think about which year eleven youngsters will help assist teaching and support staff at lunchtimes. We will be announcing who these youngsters will be next week as well as posting what their role will be on the school website. Interview and presentations by our potential Head boy and Head girl candidates will be taking place over the next couple of the weeks. When decisions are made we will be letting you know of our decisions via the website.
Contact with the school
If you have any concern about any issue at the school your first point of contact must be your child’s form tutor if the issue is not resolved then more senior members of staff will deal with any issues. If you wish to speak to any member of the senior leadership team we would respectfully ask you to make an appointment by phoning the school office. I realise we have been particularly difficult to contact due to the impact of the fire. This has caused us as much frustration as it has you. Normal communication channels are now back in place at last!
Changes to the schools staffing and support structures
Please note that I will be placing a number of short documents on the school website (under the parents tab) that provide an overview of recent changes at the school. These will explain the rationale for these changes and their current progress. I would encourage you to read them.
Buildings Update
We are encouraged by our initial conversations with our insurers and the county council about the refurbishment of the main block. We are optimistic that the process will result in
1. Improved ICT and Mathematics provision
2. Improved Design and Technology facilities
3. Some bigger classrooms for other subject areas
4. Some improved potential community facilities
We will keep you updated as the process continues.
