Student Support
The student support department is staffed at all times by highly experienced and qualified learning support assistants. It is open every break and lunch time for all students within our school. The department comprises two teaching areas. The first is a large classroom with fifteen brand new computers; this is set up to help and support students with homework. The second large room is used to encourage social interaction. It has a fantastic range of furniture to make the students feel welcome and relaxed. It gives them the opportunity to read from a selection of books and play many games that support literacy and numeracy.

Hearing Impaired Support
Within the student support department, children with hearing impairment are also catered for. This facility is available for young people between the ages of eleven and eighteen, who have a moderate, severe or profound hearing loss. The accommodation includes an acoustically treated room, which minimises reverberation and resonance.
It is our policy to include all children with additional needs within the mainstream school. However, our teacher of the deaf will withdraw students from selected lessons, to work on developing their reading and writing skills. She also develops their speech and language, through a conversational approach to learning.
A range of targeted support also exists for each hearing impaired child within normal lessons, either from the teacher of the deaf or specialist learning support staff. Close liaison exists between them and the mainstream teachers, to ensure that the child’s needs are being met.
Students are supported when using and looking after their hearing equipment. All teaching staff are comfortable using a range of specialist equipment, including radio aids, in lessons.
